Development Officer

Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s Development Officer will have the dual role of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding existing and newly identified major gift prospects to support the organization's mission, and managing network development and outreach programs to Greater Cleveland’s faith community to fundraise, recruit volunteers, and educate faith-based partners regarding the goals, programs, and mission of Greater Cleveland Habitat.

Key responsibilities:

Major Gifts:

  • Raises between $300,000 and $400,000 in the first year with incremental growth in subsequent years.
  • Focuses on major gift work primarily in Lorain County.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual, corporate and foundation major gift donors and prospects through visits and other forms of direct personal contact.
  • Assists in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Makes effective use of Raiser’s Edge to ensure appropriate management of donors and prospects.
  • Conducts research to identify major gift prospects.
  • Develops a “moves management” and engagement strategy for existing and prospective donors.

Faith Relations:

  • Fundraises a minimum of $100,000 in the first year in the faith communities to support Habitat’s construction efforts with incremental growth in subsequent years.
  • Develops strategies to build and maintain faith community partnerships in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties, including maintenance of current partnerships and building new relationships with diverse congregations, to include formation of a new interfaith coalition.
  • Works with the volunteer department to plan and coordinate annual faith-based events and build days in both counties.
  • Serves as a primary spokesperson for faith-based events.
  • Develops and cultivates relationships with clergy, denominational leadership, and volunteer committees to expand the capacity of the faith relations program in both counties.
  • Creates individual and collective strategies for each faith-based prospect and donor in an expanding portfolio.
  • Utilizes Raiser’s Edge to track contacts and visit notes.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BA/BS degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years highly relevant fundraising experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Previous experience working with committees and volunteers.
  • Passion and calling to engage the local faith community in Habitat’s mission.
  • Ability to successfully manage both short-term and long-term responsibilities of the position, including strategic planning and implementation of program goals and objectives.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Demonstration of exceptional interpersonal skills in a variety of social and professional settings to ensure good working relationships with colleagues, donors, families, and volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Respect for and openness to learning about diverse religions.
  • Professional and articulate speaker comfortable with public speaking engagements.
  • Willingness and ability to divide time between two responsibilities.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, and ability to be insurable under commercial insurance.
  • Commitment to Greater Cleveland Humanity for Humanity mission and the principles of Humanity for Humanity International.

Preferred:

  • Five (5) or more years of fundraising experience
  • Familiarity with the local faith community and/or area religious organizations
  • Familiarity with Lorain County
  • Previous experience with Raiser’s Edge

Position Details:

  • Reports to: Director of Development
  • Full-time, Exempt
  • Workweek: Monday through Friday; with some Saturday hours required. 
  • Targeted range: $65,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements: This position primarily operates in a professional office environment with standard office equipment. However, the role also requires occasional work in outdoor environments. Candidates must be comfortable navigating active construction sites and community event settings, sometimes in varying weather conditions. Occasional standing and walking required.
