Pop the champagne because Cleveland Habitat is turning 35!

This is an exciting year for the Cleveland Habitat community because 2022 marks our 35th anniversary.

Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1987 by a group of dedicated volunteers who shared a vision to help local hard-working, lower-income families obtain quality and affordable homes, and thereby create strength, stability and self-reliance.

We've had a lot of successes since then. Just last year we broke three major records, including:

  • Most houses completed in a single year (26)
  • Most Habitat homeowners moving into their homes in a single month (9) - in December so it was an even more festive time of year!
  • Most sales at Cleveland Habitat's ReStores (~$2.7 million)

"Cleveland Habitat’s 35th anniversary is a great time to celebrate the more than 300 families who own affordable, quality homes, and to showcase how our work revitalizes inner-city neighborhoods," said John Habat, president and CEO of Cleveland Habitat. "But we're not resting on our laurels. The sky is the limit for the next 35 years!"

Since the beginning, we have been blessed to be surrounded by people willing to share their time, talents and resources to further our mission. If you have been involved with us in the last 35 years, thank you. None of this would be possible without the help of our volunteers, donors, ReStore shoppers and staff.

“Volunteers make Habitat happen,” said Habat. “We should all be proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish as a Habitat community.

Throughout the year, we will be celebrating 35 years of building homes, empowering families through affordable housing and revitalizing neighborhoods. Stay tuned for more on that in the coming months!
