| Many groups find added and sometimes unexpected benefits in participating with Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity from building camaraderie among members of the group to learning new skills to recognizing how every group can make a difference in the Cleveland Community. We ask all groups to consider helping Habitat in multiple ways -- giving of time, talent and resources.

Things to consider when planning a group volunteer project:
- Habitat needs all groups to raise awareness for Habitat and support our mission beyond a day of volunteering. Habitat prioritizes its scheduling based on the ability of groups to assist with our needs.
- Adopt a Work Day: Many groups raise $5,000 in addition to working on a Habitat job site. This allows Habitat to raise the cash needed to build houses.
- Work-A-Thon: We encourage groups to double their support by asking for pledges from peers and co-workers.
- Other groups raise money through individual contributions and see if their company or organization is willing to match their efforts.
- Habitat encourages groups to coordinate Tool Drives prior to coming out to volunteer, which helps provide needed tools and materials to our work projects.
- We typically coordinate groups of up to 12 to serve as supplemental crews to assist our Construction Team wherever they need help on any stage of any Habitat projects.
- In general groups assist on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM.
- We encourage groups to help recruit skilled leadership to work on projects. The availability of projects and supervision varies throughout the year.
- Large groups (over 12) without skilled leadership require more supervision and may or may not be able to be scheduled. Where opportunities exist for larger groups, Habitat may need to assign participants to separate job sites.
- Groups may be able to sponsor two work sites (or up to 24 people).
What to expect from a Work Day
- Each site has a leader or supervisor who will make sure everyone has filled out their Volunteer Registration Forms, signed in, and receive proper instruction for the work day.
- Volunteers will be assigned to projects by the worksite supervisor, and we ask that volunteers help where they are needed.
- Groups help on projects ranging from foundation work and framing to finish work and final landscaping.
What to Bring: Bring your lunch, bottled water, and your own hand tools, if you have them. Useful tools include: hammer, utility knife, tool belt, measure tape, marking pencil, chalk line and portable drill for carpentry projects; rollers, brushes and pans for painting; shovels, rakes, picks and garden tools for landscaping. Habitat does have a supply of tools, so don't worry if you can't provide them. We do, however, greatly appreciate groups that bring tools to the job site and leave them as a donation at the end of the day!
What to Wear: Volunteers should come dressed in appropriate clothes for the weather. Work may be inside or outside. Expect to get dirty and to work hard. Hard soled shoes and work gloves are strongly recommended. Remember sunscreen on those sunny days of work outside.
Amenities Toilet facilities or port-o-potties are available at all sites, depending on the stage of the project.
