
Construction Team Leader Assistant
Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s Construction Team Leader Assistant is responsible for supporting the Construction Team Leader in coordinating on-site construction activities, managing volunteers, and ensuring the site’s safety and preparedness. In addition to assisting with weekday tasks, the Construction Team Leader Assistant is solely responsible for managing the site and overseeing all construction activities on Saturdays, ensuring continuity and progress during the Team Leader’s absence. This role requires hands-on participation in construction activities and volunteer management, with a focus on safety and mission alignment.

The Construction Team Leader Assistant interacts daily with various external individuals and entities, representing Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity in a positive and professional manner. They are responsible for understanding and explaining Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s mission, goals, and programs to volunteers, communities, and the public, ensuring alignment with the organization's values. Responsibilities include:
- Saturday Site Management: Serves as the primary on-site leader every Saturday, managing all construction activities and ensuring volunteer coordination in the absence of the Construction Team Leader.
- Support Site Preparation: Assists in preparing the job site with necessary tools, materials, and safety equipment in advance of workdays.
- Volunteer Management: Leads and motivates volunteers, ensures that they are greeted, instructed, and supported throughout the workday. Addresses sign-ins and sign-outs of volunteers.
- Assists Construction Tasks: Works alongside the Construction Team Leader in performing and supervising basic construction tasks during the week. On Saturdays, independently manages site operations and ensures projects meet quality standards and are completed on schedule.
- Tool & Material Organization: Assists in organizing and maintaining tools, materials, and vehicles, ensures proper servicing and storage.
- Site Safety: Monitors site conditions to ensure safety protocols are followed. Assists in ensuring the site is stocked with personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitary supplies.
- Daily Operations: Supports the Construction Team Leader in managing day-to-day construction tasks, including coordinating deliveries of materials, communicating with volunteers, and addressing on-site issues. Takes full responsibility for these tasks on Saturdays.
- Maintains Cleanliness: Ensures the site is clean, organized, and safe for all workers and volunteers. Assists with the final clean-up of the project site.
- Assists with Inspections: Helps schedule and coordinates necessary inspections as required by permits, and ensures the work aligns with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborative Communication: Works with the Construction Team Leader to maintain clear communication with other team members, leadership, and cross-departmental staff. Provides updates on Saturday progress and any issues that arise.
- Documentation & Reporting: Supports in tracking daily site activities, material usage, and volunteer participation. Assists with filing receipts and helping with financial reporting.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Maintains a hazard-free, clean workspace.
- Always follows Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s safety policies and procedures.
- Notifies management of any safety-related incidents or issues on-site.
- Assists with maintaining a project safety log and reports safety concerns to the Construction Team Leader.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED Equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in construction, volunteer management, or team-based work.
- Possession of an OSHA 10-hour certification is a plus. Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity will assist in obtaining certification if not already in possession.
- Possession of First Aid/CPR/AED certified is a plus. Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity will assist in obtaining certification if not already in possession.
- Possesses basic knowledge of construction tools and techniques.
- Kneeling, and lifting for extended periods.
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers of various skill levels.
- Ability to work outdoors on construction sites with exposure to various weather conditions.
- Requires physical exertion and the ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, and ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including climbing ladders, working at heights,
- Possesses strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Organized, with attention to detail and the ability to follow schedules and timelines.

- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and ability to be insurable under commercial insurance.
Position Details:
- Reports to: Director of Construction Operations
- Department: Construction Operations
- Full-Time, hourly/non-exempt
- Typical workweek: Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30am-4:00pm
- Targeted Range: $18-19 per hour, commensurate with experience.
Work Environment:
This position is based at Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s construction sites. The role involves regular interaction with the construction team, subcontractors, volunteers, external contacts, and Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity leadership.
