Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s Construction Team Leader is responsible for coordinating all on-site activities, including managing subcontractors and volunteers, ensuring site safety, and delivering a mission-driven experience for all individuals on their assigned construction site. The Construction Team Leader will guide, instruct, lead, and train volunteers on residential construction sites, ensuring tools, materials, and safety equipment are ready for each workday. The role requires diligent planning, anticipation of needs, and real-time decision-making. Alongside the Construction Team Leader Assistant, will ensure projects stay on schedule, meet quality standards, and that all team members and volunteers are engaged and supported.
Ambassador of Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity:
The Construction Team Leader interacts daily with various external individuals and entities, representing Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity in a positive and professional manner. Responsible for understanding and explaining Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s mission, goals, and programs to volunteers, communities, and the public, ensuring alignment with the organization's values. Key Responsibilities:
- Leads, trains, motivates, and supports volunteers on job sites to complete residential construction tasks.
- Prepares job sites for volunteers with the proper tools, materials, and safety equipment in advance of each workday.
- Demonstrates awareness of the “volunteer experience” and takes steps to support this experience wherever possible and ensures each volunteer is greeted, instructed, and signed-in and out each day.
- Prepares and coordinates the delivery of material and tools to job sites in preparation for workdays.
- Assists in maintaining organization and servicing of tools, materials, and construction vehicles.
- Responsible for maintaining a positive, equal opportunity and harassment-free work environment.
- Fosters a positive and collaborative work environment, ensuring clear communication and coordination among all team members and volunteers.
- Communicates regularly with teams and departments to coordinate resources and project updates.
- Creates and executes bi-weekly construction plans to ensure all required resources are in place and planned activities are communicated to various departments, staff, and volunteers.
- Manages project timelines to ensure that construction projects are progressing according to schedule and are completed within set timelines and quality standards.
- Responsible for inspecting work and addressing issues to ensure that all work is aligned with the project specifications, regulatory compliance requirements, and in coordination with contractors for scheduling.
- Maintains regular communication with Department Leadership and other Departments for scheduling of volunteer groups, progress updates, and site/resource needs.
- Handles financial receipts.
- Provides regular reports on current and future spending needs
- Conducts a final clean and punch list completion of the project site to ensure a clean and safe home for a future homebuyer.
- Monitors and limits the waste of materials on site.
- May be required to schedule and coordinate required inspections required by permits.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Ensures that the assigned project site is always stocked and prepared with PPE, sanitary, and other items.
- Maintains a hazard free, clean workspace.
- Understands and operates by safe work practices at all our locations and events to ensure we meet, if not exceed, OSHA and Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity safety policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all team members and volunteers are aware of and operate by
- Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s safety policies and procedures.
- Exercises outlined protocols by immediately notifying and collaborating with management on any safety related incident and/or responds to reports involving Habitat or any other related team members (workers, volunteers, and subcontractors).
- If within area of purview, initiates and/or helps with the proper investigation regarding safety incidents by following Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity Safety policies and procedures.
- Maintains a project safety log.
- Prepares and conducts homeowner move-in day “walkthrough.”
- Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or GED Equivalent.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in one (1) or more of the following areas: construction site supervision, leading volunteer groups, team-based construction experience, or supervision of subordinates.
- Ability to complete the Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity Competent Person Training, as assigned.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and prints or a willingness to learn to do so.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of basic construction mathematics.
- Must be organized with attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and email, preferably Outlook.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and ability to be insurable under commercial insurance.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including climbing ladders, operating power tools, and working in confined spaces when needed.
- Must possess the ability to foster a positive and collaborative environment.
- A commitment to Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building affordable houses for purchase by partner households, by bringing the community together to do so.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to teach and train volunteers with various skill levels.
Preferred:
- Possession of an OSHA 16-hour certification is a plus. Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity will assist in obtaining certification if not already in possession.
- Possession of First Aid/CPR/AED certified is a plus. Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity will assist in obtaining certification if not already in possession
Position Details:
- Reports to: Director of Construction Operations
- Department: Construction Operations
- Full-Time, hourly/non-exempt
- Typical workweek: Monday – Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm
- Targeted Range: $23 – $24 per hour; commensurate with experience.

Work Environment and physical requirements:
This position is based at Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity’s construction sites. The role involves regular interaction with the construction team, subcontractors, volunteers, external contacts, and Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity leadership. Requires strenuous physical exertion for extended periods including climbing ladders, working at high levels with trusses, soffits, gables, etc., kneeling, squatting, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, lifting pulling, and frequently carrying objects weighing up to 80 pounds with or without assistance.
Ability to perform described physical work for an extended period, under hot, wet, or cold weather conditions.
